Klima-ACT!
The threat seems too distant, and the personal impact of climate change feels too minimal. What’s missing are personal experiences and the emotions tied to them that would prompt action. Can people be motivated to act more when they can directly experience the effects of climate change?
This is the question the research team at HAW Hamburg and its partners are exploring with their Virtual Reality project "Klima-ACT!" using the example of a community garden in Hamburg. From the comfort of a porch swing, users can observe the destructive power of extreme weather on their personal surroundings. Through technologically enhanced textiles, the effects of climate change can literally be felt on their own bodies. Together, users can attempt to counter the devastation and protect the beloved community garden.
