Swaeny Nina Kersaan

Swaeny Nina Kersaan is a PhD candidate, grant holder, and member of the Global Literary Studies Lab at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona. She also works as an independent artist. Swaeny has a background in graphic design from GLR in Rotterdam, conceptual art from ArtEZ in Arnhem, and holds a Master's degree in Art and Visual Culture from the University of Westminster in London.

In her work, she explores the revaluation of values in digital culture, drawing from concepts such as social media, avatars, tokens, online aesthetics, (video)gaming, and imaginaries of the future. Swaeny exhibits her work and participates in conferences and art residencies internationally.

Her latest large-scale interdisciplinary project is titled "Proxy, This Is Not A Performance," which ran from July 2022 to November 2023. Currently, she is engaged in caregiving and writing while struggling to find time to play video games, scroll through Instagram, and chat with digital artists; i.e. academic fieldwork.
