Since 2014, students at Margaretha-Rothe-Gymnasium have been interviewing people about whatever is currently important in politics, society, or the economy.
Here’s what sets our project apart:
We work and make decisions as a team. We seek expert advice and ask people who know more than we do. We go beyond the school grounds and work as practically as possible. We educate without being too boring. We do the best we can.
In recent years, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming distinguished guests. Kevin Kühnert, Susanne Beyer, Robert Habeck, Julian Reichelt, Jochen Bittner, Charlotte Knobloch, and Peter Tschentscher have all taken the stage with us—along with many other guests.
We at “Margaretha Rothe Asks…” take a stand against all forms of group-based hostility. Out of a sense of historical responsibility and in memory of our namesake, Margaretha Rothe—a member of the Hamburg White Rose and a victim of National Socialism—we are particularly opposed to anti-Semitism. On June 4, 2019, we held a discussion event on the topic of antisemitism, featuring not only Peter Tschentscher, the First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, but also Charlotte Knobloch, a Holocaust survivor and tireless advocate for human rights. It was her express wish that we publish her opening remarks.
